We recently took to DJ Harrison after hearing his groove-heavy remix of Nubya Garcia's track, 'The Message Continues (DJ Harrison Remix)'. The Stones-Throw signee has spent the last three years working on a new album, Tales from the Old Dominion, and now drops the first single 'Be Better', alongside an animated video by Lou Beach. 'Be Better' is a fuzzy and funky song. With a bass and drum groove at the heart of the track and Harrison's soulful vocals, we're instantly reminded of the great Gil Scott Herron, whose style of spoken word has evidently affected a plethora of future R&B, hip-hop and rap. With lyrics that mention needing the sunshine and the line, 'Smilin’ all over town But still going home with a frown (I just wanna be better)', the song's sentiment is contrastingly uplifting. Practising what he preaches, the warmth and optimism of 'Be Better' has already made the day better. Tales from the Old Dominion, comes out on 3rd December! -Ellie Rose-Davies
